Slow Alps Glacier Express Panoramic Rail St. Moritz Zermatt Bespoke Journey
This is not a circuit that races from landmark to landmark. It gives each of two Alpine valleys three unhurried nights. Begin on the Engadin plateau, easing into mountain time with lakeside walks, a cable-car ascent, long lunches and spa afternoons. Then devote a full day to crossing the Alps aboard the Glacier Express before arriving in car-free Zermatt. The days that follow are not built around summits alone: weather and energy shape a gentle balance of Matterhorn viewpoints, easy walks, village life and time at the hotel. Each journey can lean toward hiking, skiing, gastronomy or pure retreat according to season.

Day-by-Day

Day 1

Arrive in Zurich and continue to St. Moritz

Meet your host at Zurich Airport and continue into the Engadin by first-class rail or private car. Check in to a curated St. Moritz hotel, with only a short lakeside walk planned for the evening as you settle into the altitude.

Day 2

St. Moritz and the Engadin lakes

Discover St. Moritz's resort heritage with a local guide, then choose an easy trail through the Engadin lake district. Keep the afternoon open for the spa, a long terrace lunch, sailing or a snow experience depending on season.

Day 3

An unhurried day in the Engadin

Let the weather choose one focus: a mountain viewpoint, a quiet Engadin village or a valley walk. The day deliberately holds a single theme, allowing the landscape, lunch and changing Alpine light to set the pace.

Day 4

The full Glacier Express crossing to Zermatt

Cross the Alps on the approximately eight-hour Glacier Express journey through gorges, mountain passes and viaducts. Choose First Class or, subject to budget and availability, Excellence Class; tickets, mandatory reservations and dining arrangements are confirmed for the actual travel date. Continue to the hotel on foot or by electric vehicle on arrival.

Day 5

A first encounter with the Matterhorn

Use the clearest part of the day for a Matterhorn viewpoint, with route and altitude selected around season, snow conditions and your energy. Return to the car-free village for an old-town walk and an unhurried hotel afternoon.

Day 6

A day in the mountains above Zermatt

In summer, choose a guided easy hike or Alpine picnic; in winter, switch to skiing or a snow walk. Difficulty ranges from family-friendly to advanced, with a weather-safe alternative held in reserve.

Day 7

A deliberately open day

No fixed checklist today. Revisit a favourite view, book a spa and long lunch, or ask the advisor to arrange photography, a scenic helicopter flight or another private experience, always subject to weather, permissions and live availability.

Day 8

Depart Zermatt

After breakfast, continue to Zurich or Geneva Airport. Your advisor will build the rail or private-transfer connection backward from the international flight time, with extra contingency for winter conditions.
